Maximum Running Average Number of Wins over 6 Basho (1957 to 2025)

This table shows the maximum average number of wins (including fusensho) over any sequence of 6 consecutive basho. I started by listing only those rikishi who had achieved a running average of more than 10.0, but then I decided to add all sekitori from the last basho to see how the current guys rank against the best.

(TLDR. Ryuden's appearance with a score of 10.0 may surprise some as this is a better result than Wakatakage who "scored the most wins in 2022". The people who say this mean the most wins as a maegashira: Wakatakakage scored 57 out of a possible 90 or 63%. In contrast, Ryuden's 60 wins include juryo results and even one basho as a makushita. This could be interpreted as saying Ryuden's performace is less strong than Wakatakakage's. On the other hand, when he appeared in makushita he could only win a maximum of 7 bouts. This means he won 60 out of a possible 82 or 73%.)
