Gaspode-san's Sumo Statistics

Welcome back to my sumo stats pages. Please report bugs here.

Updates

  • 2024/7/13
    • Significant re-write in preparation for the elimination of inflation!
    • Miscellaneous Charts added.
    • Central Chii Index added.
    • Slight improvement to handling of shikona dropdowns. Add button not needed now. (But pressing return still does not work. TBD.)
  • 2024/5/11
    • Alt-clicking a shikona shows the rikishi's progress over time.
    • New (probably meaningless) stat πE added.
    • Major re-write of Elo table code.
  • 2024/3/21
    • The ranking of makuuchi rikishi with the highest Elo relative to their contemporaries ("Max Elo Prob") was based on old data. This has been fixed.
  • 2023/12/9
    • Rikishi indices ('Rank' in the tables) are not correct when sorting on anything other than Chii?. TBD his highest-ever rank.
  • 2023/11/23
    • Shikona have a * after them to indicate rikishi is at his highest-ever rank.
  • 2023/10/14
    • Discovered there is a bug when sorting on ΔElo. TBD
  • 2023/9/14
    • When I set out to create these pages, I was interested in the standings at the end of each basho and not during the basho. The pages should now give more-or-less sensible results during a basho as well. There are some infelicities e.g. the code counts bouts that have not happened yet as fusen-sho.
  • 2023/7/15
    • The ΔElo column in the Elo tables shows a rikishi's Elo rating has changed over the course of a basho but it does not show how much a rikishi won/lost a given day. I have fixed this: the ΔElo value is now a link to a graph showing the changes day by day.
  • 2023/5/5
    • Added new chart. Old charts are now under "Rikishi Performance". The new chart shows how maegashira Elo ratings compare against chii. May add juryo later.
    • Shortened height of graphs because I can't find a way of making plotly using all available vertical space without charts spilling over the bottom of the screen.
    • The ΔChii column is broken.
  • 2023/1/19
    • Major update to how tables are displayed - expect bugs. You may find the response is slow to begin with, but it will become fast once people have used the new pages for a while and the tables become cached.
    • Added results for Day 12.
    • Added Elo probability table.
    • Added μE = average probability of winning against all opponents in division to tables
  • 2023/1/2
    • Added menu.
    • Added interactive charts of rikishi performance.
    • Added table of best-by-running-average (non-Elo)
    • Resolved issue of duplicate shikona:
      • When two or more rikishi have the same shikona, I have appended their hatsu date. For example, the rikishi we know as Takanosho is 'Takanosho (2010)' as opposed to the earlier 'Takanosho (1987)'.
      • TLDR
        • Takanosho (2010) first appeared in the banzuke in 2010 but was called 'Masunosho' then. He didn't change his shikona to the one we know now until 2017 but I thought 'Takanosho (2017)' would be confusing.
        • 'Takanosho (Masunosho)' would work but this can lead to very long labels that mess up the tables.
        • The same is true of using full names (and there is no guarantee they would be unique either).
  • 2022/12/19
    • Improved Elo tables interface.
    • Added results from previous basho
